Have you had a house guest that worn out their welcome. Or a guest that took the term ';Make yourself at home'; literally?

well had this friend of mine who got flooded out from the katrina storm and he called me asked if he and his wife could stay at my house for a little while until he got a place of his own.I said sure no problem,had plenty of room.I had never met his wife,which he just married not too long before the storm hit.They came to stay and I had bought some groceries for myself and picked up a little extra,well this wife of his didn't want to have to get up and look for a job,so she sat in my house,while I was at work and messed around on my computer in chat rooms or whatever (gave it a virus) when I got home from work in one day she had ate 10 of my little fruit cups that I take to work for my lunch.she ate a bag of chips and half a package of cheese..she did NOT throw anything in the trash but left little empty fruit cups and spoons all over my house.she then had the balls to tell me that my carpet had crumbs on it and asked me when I would be cleaning the carpet cause the chip crumbs hurt her feet.Did I mention at the time I was working 50 hours a week or more? to make a long story short.I finally told them both they had to go,he found an apt and the day before they left my house she told me that she thinks I was looking at her husband ';all gay like'; and they are moving cause she thinks I will steal her man and she threw herself on the floor and started to scream and yell about her man...did I mention I am a straight man who at the time had a girlfriend? LOL..this woman was INSANE! he is still marrried to her to this day but she is not welcome ever in my home again.I told her off and sent them on their way.Have you ever had a house guest from hell?

When i was in middle school and my brother was in high school, he had this friend that mooched off of him for everything.
His friend lived in the rich side of town and we lived on the poor side, but apparently he got in some arguement with his mom and left his house, and my mom let him live with us.
But he was soo rude about it.. He ate all of our food, ran up our bills, smoked in the house when we weren't home and then got in a fight with my brother and left without saying thank you or anything. He never even paid rent.
My cousin stayed with us for like a month or two and he is the laziest person I have ever met. I would get home from work and discover he didn't get off the couch the entire day. He wouldn't even put his own dishes in the kitchen when he was done and one time I made the mistake of asking him to make the corn for dinner and it was a 20 minute ordeal where he flat out refused. I took him back to his mom and left him; hes not invited here anymore..
No. When my dad and us moved to America, we were the house guests from hell. Where we were from, it was ok for family to stay with relatives. We learned in America that people weren't that friendly. We left soon. We've become more Americanized in the past 20 years, which isn't a good thing. It's rare to go overseas and run into people who are just so civil and would do anything to accommodate and befriend you. Americans are really mean people. I suspect much of this will change. Many are just too spoiled and selfish.
As the money in this country dries up, people will realize Paris Hilton is not the sort of person they should be modeling their lives after.

But as far as tying the sewer in, I would call in a professional plumber for that job. Playing with the sewer connections is a lot messier and the consequences of a job done wrong are worse than when you are working with fresh water.

My husband and I have the same friends. We have one family member who we love and has been there through our good times and bad. Here is the problem: When we want him to leave he find an excuse to stay. My husband David said he have to go. We had him stay for 9 mos. Never helped out with budget. He basically felt because that he was family and didn't have contribut to our budget household and said he was a guest and didn't have to help . My husband and I live on a military budget. We told him to help out with the budget. He faked an illness. Found out from his wife and kids that he went to a physical and mental doctor. Everything was normal. He had everyone fooled except for David and me. He tries for ust to cater to him and had the guts to tell us not to have sex when he is in the house and to keep our babies quiet and the house should be noise free house. David was about ready drop kick him! Any help would be hot.What is the easiest way to get rid of a unwanted house guest?
Drop kicking him sounds like a good idea.
However, you and your husband need to sit him down one day and tell him he has to find another place to live right away because he can't stay there anymore. You're not rich and you can't afford to support a full grown adult....and he has a wife and kids? What's with that? Why isn't he with them? He should be out working to provide for them, not freeloading from you two.
I would also give him an ultimatum. Either he leaves immediately, or he starts paying 1/2 of the bills, including food, water, electric, shampoo, etc.....be as petty on this one as you have to be. I'm guessing you'd rather he left instead of paid any money, so make it as unattractive as possible for him to keep staying there. Lay down the law......hard and fast....right on top of his head. Don't take any arguments. If he still refuses, have the MP's or local PD escort him off of the premises. Since he's not paying you anything at all, he's a guest and guests can be asked to leave at any time at all. He has no rights to that home and his autocratic behavior is his way of trying to assert his authority over you both. Don't stand for it.
Also, you might want to compile a list of items, food, bills etc that he's enjoyed during his stay there. Present this to him as his obligation to pay as well.
Lastly, I'd let the kids make a lot of noise and made sure this guest could hear you and your husband having sex at all hours. He has no right to dictate your behavior in your own home with your own husband. If he doesn't like hearing it, he should just leave, shouldn't he?. ;)

You've got the Houseguest from Hell, and it's time to do what you should have done a looooong time ago. Confront the lying, conniving bum and tell him to pack his toothbrush and git. You say he has everyone fooled except you and your husband. Sounds to me like he has you all suckered up too, since this has been going on for so long and the two of you have meekly allowed it to continue.
Why should you care if he throws a crying fit? You know it's all a con. If it were me, I'd have long ago had his stuff packed myself, and tossed out into the street. Get some backbone, the both of you, and make him hit the road.
Pack his stuff up when he's gone and leave it out in the yard.

You could make up an advertisement ad for a garage sale. That says if you and your possessions are not moved out of here in 5 days or whatever, there will be a garage sale and all of your stuff will be sold. All profits will go to us to help pay for the 9 months you lived here expense free.

If not, be blunt - tell him he's got 3 days or whatever to get out or the police will be called.

When the Cuckoo baby hatches he makes him or herself at home. The presense of the other baby birds makes the Cuckoo uncomfortable and so he simply pushes them out of the nest. When he is the only one left he is such a big baby that the poor parents are worn out feediing him. Thus the mother Cuckoo does nothing. Pretty clever huh? It sounds like you have a fine Cuckoo there in your nest, and he is changing your nest and making unreasonable demands on you and David to make himself more comfortable.

If he didn't like it he would find another place to live where he felt more comfortable.

Family and money never mix. People feel the attachment of family to be stronger than money. Problem is, the bank feels the attachment to money, and the things you pay for with it, before your family. Be smart...if the money is running out before the guest is, then that is your fault!!
If all diplomatic ways were tried and failed, throw his things out in the street and never let him come in. Tell all your housemates to lock him out and never let him inside the house again.. or call the police and tell them he is a nuisance or trespassing..

Set a date for him to get out, and if he doesn't even bother to try, then the next time he leaves the house, throw all of his stuff on the curb, and have the locks changed on the house. Don't give in when he says he's sick, just tell him to go and find a new hospital to stay at, as you are not his caregiver.

If you just wanted a room you could use a shed which would be easy . In my county you can build a out building without a permit if it is less than 80 sq ft. But you will likely need a bathroom. So you will need a building permit. You should start a your local government to see what requirements they have for your proposal. You will need licensed electricians to do/inspect all electric work you may be able to do the rest but some counties require a licensed plumber for water and sewer connections. The county may or may not require a licensed architect for a site plan, some will allow you to prepare the plan. An extension on your house would be a lot cheaper since you would not need to add a bath. This must be a joke, right? Someone shoveled foods into a planter? Any host will eventually find out. Well, did the dinner guest shovel the entire plate or just a tiny bite into the planter. If it is just a tiny bit, then maybe there is a charcoal pierce or hair or something, so the guest did not know what to do and just tossed that small piece. If it is the entire plate, then it is a different story. Well, it is really up to you if you want to forgive them. If you truly are ready to forgive, then sure you will attend. If you do not think you are ready to forgive but want to do so one day, then do not attend. Otherwise, 1) you will be quietly upset for the entire evening, or 2) you will burst out and say something you regret later. Don't put yourself in a situation which you are not ready for. a couple weeks ago, i was out buying some chickpeas at an arab store. i found some mango drink, and decided to buy it. it was expired, and i got sick off of it. so i blew the whistle on him, and his store shut down, and he's living with us, because he wants to repay us, and because i ruined his business. now its getting real bad. he cooks for us every day, and stinks up the house, and all the food he makes is really spicy, and the kids cant eat it, since one of my kids is a tv addict. and he always plays this annoying oboe like instrument. and he also pulled the chair on my father while he was visiting, and sings this annoying song played on some instrument called the ood. like the song is ';who need the avenue market'; then he goes on the roof and cries, and the kids are always afraid when he does that. the only way to get rid of him is to travel to qatar, and help him get his store back by the first owner of this chainHow do you get rid of an annoying house guest?

Be the worst host/ hostess you can until he hates your family's company.
Examples:
1) Don't always listen to him while talking
2) Deliberately cause a mess to the house (don't clean, don't tidy) until he thinks how bad you are at the housekeeping and wants to leave
3) Lie about a relative at the hospital. This way you can avoid visiting your house very often
4) Agree with the kids to tell him they 're doing really bad at school and need more silence and time to study
Even if he doesn't believe in your lies, he will understand you wanna get rid of him and he will have no choice but depart

What do we do with a friend who makes a terrible house guest?
One of my wife's friends (a friend, not a very close friend) recently came to stay for a week. She made a terrible house guest, offering no help with meals etc, eating our fridge empty, leaving her things all over the house and spending much of her time reading her emails. We're a pretty easy-going couple but this woman really tested our patience. Anyway, she left and we've seen her since at a few parties etc and she keeps raving about how good a stay she had and how she'd love to come back to see us again. My wife has swerved the issue a few times but this friend is getting more and more direct in her requests to come and stay. How do we avoid this but keep her as a friend? I know the obvious answer is if she was a good enough friend you could tell her but a) she's not a very close friend so may take the advice badly and b) each little thing she did was not a big event on its own but combined made for a terrible house guest. How do i prevent my dog from jumping on me and other house guest???????
ive always found the best way is to do it one of two ways:
one: when you walk into the house after being out and the dog goes to jump on you quickly turn around in the oposite direction so it wouldnt touch you. keep your back turned until it trys again. then keep turning a 180. do not pay any attention to it. as soon as the dog calms down and is not jumping give it praises and maybe a treat too. it takes awhile and alot of patience and persistance but it will eventually learn that to get a reaction from you it has to stay down off you or anyone else.
two: everytime it jumps up onto you grab its collar tell it ';no! down!'; firmly and yank it to the floor. not hard just a little snap and hold the dog there. everytime it goes to jump up tug at the collar so it sits back down, or stands. which ever you prefer. hold it there until it gives you the reaction you want. then praise it/give it a treat. this works a little faster then the first but is more forceful. it takes alot of time, patience, and consistance. this is simular to the training most dog trainers do with the choke collars. which i do not approve of. the little jerking of the collar gives the same negitive reaction with out the pain/chokeing or the harsh panting from not being able to breath.
always take the time to retrain your dog no matter how much of a hurry you are in. the idea is to get it to give you the right reaction to your actions and to praise it positively. consistancy is the key. dogs are all about that.

Once you and the dog have it figured out (a few days to a few weeks - be consistent) you can start adding the name for standing patiently. I like stand or off rather than down (down means lie down), but you can call it turkey for all that it matters. Practice until the dog is starting to ';get it';. You can generally see that eureka moment.
Then practice with dog-tolerant friends or family who can come to the door just to help with this. Have them do the same thing - no feedback for the bad behaviour, lots of praise for the good behaviour. After a few more rounds of practice, you'll get it so that even your in-laws can show up without being mauled.
Whatever you choose to do, be patient, calm, and consistent.

What everyone failed to mention is that, in addition to a wireless router connected to your host pc, you might also need a wireless pci card on your desktop computer in the guest house (if it doesn't already have one) or if it's a laptop, you'll need a wireless card, unless it already has built-in wifi鈥nd to add to the last response by bostonianmo, you'll only need another account or another modem if you're attempting to use a cable splitter to run the cable to the guest house, which isn't the best way to get your guesthouse computer hooked up to the web. Get yourself a wireless router and if you're using a desktop in the guest house, make sure you also get a wireless pci card and install it. Depending on the distance between the two houses, make sure the router can broadcast a stong signal and the wireless pci card can pick up a signal from a decent distance. The alternative would be to run the CAT5 cable, like mo said, all the way from your modem inside the house to the guest house, but if the cable gets too long, you might lose some signal strength. 9. You should be able to get to the Internet.
Be sure to read up on your wireless router and turn on the security features such as the firewall, NAT and WEP.

What everyone failed to mention is that, in addition to a wireless router connected to your host pc, you might also need a wireless pci card on your desktop computer in the guest house (if it doesn't already have one) or if it's a laptop, you'll need a wireless card, unless it already has built-in wifi鈥nd to add to the last response by bostonianmo, you'll only need another account or another modem if you're attempting to use a cable splitter to run the cable to the guest house, which isn't the best way to get your guesthouse computer hooked up to the web. You need to be careful where you stay. Me, I'm Australian, and I lived in London for a year where I met heaps of South Africans. I've got a ton of South African mates who said I can stay with them for the world cup, which I am stoked about.
Being in South Africa, you are gonna have to watch out where you stay for safety issues. Everything is going to be a rip off. Being that most of Africa has the worst economy in the world, they are going to take advantage of rich westerners who are visiting the country. Also, don't carry too much money on you at any one time... but enough that if you get robbed, you won't be shot for not having any money.
On average you are probably looking around AUD$200 a day for everything, or about 90GBP per person. Probably multiply that by 1.5-2 to include spending money. Then whatever the ticket prices are to the games. It won't be a cheap trip just so you know...norton 360

We have just bought a restaurant / guest house in a rural part of France.
It is situated overlooking the town square, over 200 years old and stone built.
We are looking to serve home cooked French farm cuisine using local ingredients.
The house is number 11 and so far the names that we have come up with that we like are

The travel agent is giving a package tour to me where we will stay in taj's guest house. I had been to Boracay but i haven't seen this hotel yet so maybe it is not in the beach front?Anybody here knows how Taj's Guest House in Boracay looks like?

Station 2 is actually the general favorite spot for most regular Boracay denizens because of its proximity to the party zone and commercial areas.
This is what my cousin George has to say about their escapade in boracay when they stayed in Taj's guest house without me this time.
I'm kinda sulking while I'm writing this though.kainggit kasi.hahahaha!
';They don't have any hotel reservation in boracay since they were confident that there'll be a lot of accommodations at that time from Mar. 9 to 12. So,they just decided to go to station 2 since it's near the D' Mall and it's in the middle of station1 and 3. They stayed in TAJ's house and rented a room for 3 nights. The room is air conditioned, has two beds, equipped with hot and cold shower, with cable tv and refrigerator for 1500 pesos per night, roughly equivalent to 30 dollars. First day in boracay was familiarization of the island. They walk from their rented room located somewhere in station 2 through station 1 and took some fruit shakes at jonah's. And then they swim till sunset, afterwards went to d'mall for their dinner in Mongkok restaurant. On day 2, they rented a boat for island hopping and snorkeling in the morning. On day 3, they swim the whole day.';
wheew!makes me so excited to come back to that paradise island.

Udipi Brindhavan Hotel (91-04175-22693), 57 Anna Salai, has very basic rooms with bath for Rs 80/100 and A/C rooms for Rs 325. It has a good, cheap thali restaurant.
Park Hotel is a clean place with basic rooms for Rs 80/100. Rooms have big windows with a view of the temple.
Hotel Trishul (91-04175-222/2219), 6 Kanakaraya Mudai, 3 minutes from the temple, has rooms for Rs 550/650 and Rs 850/950 with A/C. It has a good vegetarian A/C rooftop restaurant, with a good view of the temple.

Why carbolic soap for a guest-house? Does he have doubts about his guests' hygiene? Plain soap would do as well, I should imagine, and people prefer ';pretty'; soaps when they're staying away from home. More welcoming than carbolic.Can you still buy carbolic soap?
