it's always cheaper to build up than out. If you build up..they can't tax you cuz your not taking any extra sq footage off your lot size. So to answer your question..finish the attic if u want to avoid being taxed yearly on a ';guest house';Is it better to finish an attic for an extra room or just build a guest house? They both require permits if your on the up and up.
the attic is already existing but the new guest house doesnt exist. Big numbers can arise depending on which way you go. The savings in the attic upgrade but on your taxes you call it property repairs, so save the receipts. good luck
