You need to be careful where you stay. Me, I'm Australian, and I lived in London for a year where I met heaps of South Africans. I've got a ton of South African mates who said I can stay with them for the world cup, which I am stoked about.
Being in South Africa, you are gonna have to watch out where you stay for safety issues. Everything is going to be a rip off. Being that most of Africa has the worst economy in the world, they are going to take advantage of rich westerners who are visiting the country. Also, don't carry too much money on you at any one time... but enough that if you get robbed, you won't be shot for not having any money.
On average you are probably looking around AUD$200 a day for everything, or about 90GBP per person. Probably multiply that by 1.5-2 to include spending money. Then whatever the ticket prices are to the games. It won't be a cheap trip just so you know...
