I live in a guest house. The people in the main house have internet through comcast. Its not wireless. They said the last guy that lived there was able to piggy back off of their signal. How do you do that?
Do I need my own modem or a a router? How do I get Internet service in a guest house?
Depends on the distance to the guest house. If wiring has not been run out there, I would suggest giong with a wireless router, and if you computer is a desktop, using a wireless adapter (internal or external). Just make sure its not too far away for a wireless setup. Buy the stuff locally so you can return it easily if things dont work outHow do I get Internet service in a guest house?
if the main internet is not connected through a wireless router, you will not be able to get their signal wirelessly unless they upgrade to a wireless router.
The only way to connect to the internet without a wirelss router is to run an ethernet cable from the home to the guest house.
A wireless Network adapter will show ALL signals within 200 feet.
www.overstock.com has them for $20. They work, great.
Have fun!
no all u need is a Wireless Wifi Card in ur comp...if no WiFi....just run a Ethernet cord from their modem/router..:)
