Thinking of moving to Blackpool and taking guest house can anybody out there advise me on this course of action. What is blackpool guest house trade like with the credit crunch?
Don't bother, Blackpool is going down hill. Most of the trade here now is stag and hen weekends. Family fun has slowly made way for drunks vagrants drug addicts and crude rude behaviour. When I first came to Blackpool going into town during the summer you could hardly move for the amount of people now it is easy to get about as there arent as many people coming to Blackpool. Granted they are trying to clean the place up and there has been a lot of construction work lately, new shops built a new 'gateway' into town a new prom is being built. But there are far too many pubs and clubs which is ruining the town. I deliver to a few guest houses and none of them have been fully booked this year. A little fact about Blackpool is there are more bed in hotels/guest houses than there are in the whole of Portugal, so the competition to fill them is very fierce. The biggest tourist attraction we have here is the Pleasure Beach, which has now decided to charge people 拢20 just to go inside, which in turn has driven a lot of tourist away because if Mum or Dad didn't want to go on the rides they didn't have to pay anything now they have to pay 拢20. I reckon within another 10-15 years Blackpool will be just like Morecombe a dead seaside town!
